Introduction to Shooting Scene Reconstruction

This course introduces law enforcement to the basics of processing and documenting a shooting incident.

Description

Topics covered by this course will include:

  • General Crime Scene Processing,
  • Firearms Evidence Recognition,
  • Bullet Trajectory Analysis,
  • Vehicle Trajectory Analysis, and
  • Gunpowder Residue at the Scene.

Students are encouraged to bring any cameras, trajectory equipment and documentation forms utilized by their agency in order to become proficient with the equipment. Otherwise, standard equipment will be available.

Students will perform a practical exercise on a mock scene and present the findings upon completion of the course.

This course was approved for 24.0 hours of continuing education credit by the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission.
